ASHINAGA Responds to Japan Earthquake/Tsunami:
Emergency Support for Affected Children

Ashinaga has implemented the following measures for children who have lost parents/guardians in the disaster, or who have a parent/guardian with a severe disability resulting from the disaster:
* Establishment of one-time relief payments for children (from infants to graduate school students), ranging from 100,000 yen (US$1,250) to 400,000 yen (US$5,000).
* Grace periods for repayment of regular Ashinaga educational loans.
* Dispatch of staff members to affected areas to identify children in need of psychological/emotional support. These efforts are based on the 16 years of experience and know-how accumulated through the psychosocial care activities of the Kobe Rainbow House, which was established subsequent to the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake.

Ashinaga is also accepting donations in support of its activities related to educational funding and emotional care for children affected by the tragedy. If you would like to make a donation, please click the “Make a donation” box above, or send an e-mail to contact@ashinaga.org.

We deeply appreciate your support.

We at Ashinaga express our heartfelt condolences for the tragic loss of life and indescribable damage resulting from the massive March 11 Tohoku-Pacific Ocean earthquake and tsunami that devastated the northeastern region of Japan. As in any disaster, children are among the most vulnerable, and Ashinaga is now working vigorously to provide financial, educational, and emotional support to children affected by the catastrophe.
